Compassion

The new year represents a time of new beginnings for many of us, including myself. While people may set new year resolutions to the tone of losing weight, getting fit, eating right, and more physical topics, I’m setting a different intention. 2014 is my year of COMPASSION.

What is compassion? Compassion is the feeling of empathy you have for others, which may also include yourself. I think more often than not we forget that we can easily care for other people, and neglect ourselves at the same time. I’m not saying that this is a year to be selfish, but I think it is important to remember that you need to become aware of what needs and desires you have as an individual. Bringing awareness to light can be a difficult thing, and require lots of introspection and/or meditation.

I made a very tough decision at the end of 2013 to cut ties with one of my social enterprises for good because I felt that someone else could take my place and use their passions within that community to push a new vision. It would also allow me to focus a little more on my own yoga practice, as we know time is limited, and I could further more of my own growth initiatives.

So have compassion for others; have compassion for yourself; and always remember that if you invest in your community, it will flourish and enrich your own life.
